Keith Urban Admits First Show After Losing Two Band Members Was Rough

Keith Urban's gamble to shake up the touring band for his upcoming High and Alive world tour is off to a pretty rough start. Recently, he sat down for an interview on Q with Tom Power. There, he talks about his first show without two of his longtime touring band members Jerry Flowers and Nathan Barlowe. Apparently, it didn't go as smoothly as he was hoping. Keith reveals that he went out to the venue in Toronto, Ontario, Canada with a last minute drummer and no bass player.

Evidently, Urban had a bit of a rough time trying to make everything work in such a tight time crunch. "I'm in between a typical band structure right now. I haven't put together a band for the tour yet. I dismantled the band I had and I'm rebuilding a new one but I haven't built it yet," Keith explains. "We had a club show that came before I had a chance to build me band so we had a fill-in drummer last night and my keyboard player played bass, kind of like the Doors."

That night was particularly rough for Keith Urban because he had to essentially play babysitter for his keyboardist since he was pulling double duty on bass as well. "I had to keep reminding him to go for it because we'd be playing a song and I'm like 'Where's the low end?' And I'd realize that the keyboard player has forgotten that he's got to play bass too," he says.

Clearly, these are the trials and tribulations of trying to scrap your usual band without a plan in place to replace them. Keith will need to figure out his lineup relatively soon given he's got a handful of shows slated for February.
