Kelly Clarkson Cancels Appearance at Miranda Lambert's Benefit Concert After Former Husband's Passing

Kelly Clarkson had an awful tragedy in her family just a few days ago. Her former husband, Brandon Blackstock, passed away at age 48, reportedly from melanoma, a form of skin cancer. The situation is even more sad because Clarkson and Blackstock have two very young kids - River, 11, and Remington, 9. (He also had two grown children, Savannah and Seth, from his first marriage.) The hearts of her fans are with her during this very challenging time.

It has impacted Clarkson's professional schedule as well. Per Parade, she was slated to perform at Miranda Lambert's Band Together Texas benefit concert. She has now understandably canceled those plans. The news of Clarkson's withdrawal from the event was posted on the Instagram account of the occasion on Monday. The statement said, "Unfortunately, Kelly Clarkson will be unable to appear at Band Together Texas as planned, due to personal circumstances. We send our love to Kelly and her family." (Clarkson hails from Fort Worth, Texas.)

The Concert Will Showcase Many Top Stars

Per the outlet, the concert is slated for August 17 in Austin, Texas. Its aim is to help those affected by the catastrophic floods in the Lone Star State last month. There was horrific damage and the tragic loss of dozens of lives.

Lambert, along with Parker McCollum, are the organizers. There will be "performances by Cody Johnson, Ronnie Dunn, Lyle Lovett and more and appearances by Matthew McConaughey and Dennis Quaid."

Clarkson Previously Postponed Performances of Her Las Vegas Residency

People sensed that something was badly amiss for the beloved American Idol champ when she made an announcement on August 6. She said she was postponing the rest of her Las Vegas residency dates for August. Clarkson wrote, "While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them."

On August 7, Brandon Blackstock's family broke the stunning news of his death. In a statement made on their behalf by a rep, they said, "It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time."
