If the marketing is anything to go by, then the performance of Super Bowl LIX's Halftime Show should be truly special. Kendrick Lamar is headlining the performance and bringing a special guest performer.
Lamar is teaming up with SZA for the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show in New Orleans on Feb. 9. He made a hilarious video to announce SZA as a guest performer. In the video, Lamar is on a football field on a phone call.
He teased that he is teaming with a performer that is "a lot bigger than what people think." Cue SZA sneaking up behind him with a cooler full of what appears to be Gatorade. The video freeze frames on SZA about to poor the energy drink all over Lamar as he mentions he is "thinking about a guest performer."
It's not the first time the two have partnered together. So it should be familiar but fertile ground. The two collaborated on the single "All the Stars" on the Black Panther soundtrack. That earned them a 2019 Oscar nomination.
They are also about to go on a joint stadium tour beginning April 19. SZA also wants to put together a full-length album with Lamar in the future. .
"I would love that," she said during an appearance on Sherri. "I think that would be amazing. He's such a genius. And a part of his genius is him being so elusive and so mysterious. And I love it."
SZA also said that Lamar inspires her creatively.
"He's a huge part of my fumbling and finding era," she continued of Kendrick, "because I'm trusting all of his expertise and being thrust into these moments in the spotlight and saying yes. He's so good at saying yes, but staying grounded. So I'm just like, 'Teach me, sensei, what you know.'"
