Kenny Chesney is Ready to Help Those Affected by Hurricane Irma

Over the years, Kenny Chesney has chronicled his adventures across the British Virgin Islands in many of his songs and music videos. Now, the country star is determined to get his No Shoes Nation fanbase to help save the citizens of the islands he loves.

Over the past couple of days, he's taken to various social media platforms to express his sorrows over Hurricane Irma. The storm hit the Caribbean on Wednesday, Sept. 6 with winds up to 180 mph. Now, it's beginning its move towards Florida.

On Instagram, Chesney called for No Shoes Nation's collective thoughts and prayers. Then, he hit Twitter to share a touching statement on the islands. Along with it, he shares photos of the widespread damage that the hurricane caused when it came roaring through.

 

Chesney explains that Irma has brought "total devastation" to the area. "These are people who live off the sea, who depend on it. They live right there, and it's gone," he says of those affected by the hurricane. "Most everyone's displaced. They are frightened, confused, and they don't know where help is going to come from."

In the statement, Chesney notes that while he doesn't quite have a plan formed yet, he's eager to help. He's hoping for his fans to chip in when push comes to shove, too.

"Give us a few days to figure this out. Pray/send good thoughts to everyone who's been affected or is in the path of Hurricane Irma," he writes. You can read the full text here.
