Kevin Costner Opens Up About His Recent Coffee Habit

Coffee is like an adult institution. Unless you're one of the rarities that don't have the taste for it, everyone wakes up with a mug full. It's that kick of caffeine, the extra energy that gives us drive and motivation for the day. How else can we truly conquer what we need to do everyday without that little boost in the right direction. However, apparently for Kevin Costner, this is a relatively new development. His lust for that morning brew has only really awakened as an older man.

Recently, Costner spoke with PEOPLE in promotion of his partnership with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters. Together, they're partnering for a special Father's Day promotion and the actor is talking about the impact a fresh cup has on his daily routine. However, it wasn't always this way. At 70 years old, he reveals that he's only picked up the habit back to his late 50s.

"It's not an old habit. In the last 12 to 15 years, I finally came to coffee," Costner admits. "Coffee starts my day. It really has become a little bit addictive. I don't have an addictive personality, I don't think, but that really starts my day."

Initially, Kevin Costner didn't have the taste for it. He ran into the same problem I did: it was far too bitter to actually enjoy. He'd find himself overcompensating with a ton of sugar and different additives to be palatable. But now, it's an essential fixture of his day, one cup at the start of his day and he can tackle anything. "I remember not liking it. It needed a ton of sugar, it needed a ton of something. It was so bitter for me that I couldn't bear it," he recalls.
