'King Of The Hill' New Voice Actor Opens Up About Taking On Role After Death Of Johnny Hardwick

It's always weird when a show you love comes back and things are way too different. If enough time goes by, sometimes, the full cast can't reprise their roles. If it's a new character, by all means. But sometimes, creators will swap in another person to take on a character we all know and love. This can be especially true for an animated show like King of The Hill. New voice actors can be brought in for their rough approximation of how a character would sound.

However, this can leave fans a little uneasy and it puts the new guys in a difficult spot. So when Johnny Hardwick died and the news was announced that King of The Hill would come back, people were naturally conflicted. What would this mean for the character of Dale Gribble? This put newcomer Toby Huss in an awkward situation. Now, he's opening up about the responsibility that comes with taking on an iconic character.

Voice Actor Toby Huss Talks About Taking Over as Dale Gribble for New King of The Hill Series

Recently, Huss spoke at a panel for the ATX TV Festival, captured by ComicBook.com. There, he opens up about taking over as Dale Gribble on King of The Hill. Ultimately, he admits how tough it's been for him to follow in the late Johnny Hardwick's footsteps. "Johnny was one-of-a-kind and a wonderful fellow. I'm not trying to copy Johnny... I guess I'm trying to be Johnny," Toby admits.

"He laid down a really wonderful goofball character... he had a lot of weird heart to him, and that's a credit to Johnny. So all I'm trying to do is hold on to his Dale-ness. We love our guy Johnny, and it's so sad that he's not here," he continues of the late King of The Hill voice actor.
