For his sixth studio album, Kip Moore has gone big. Not only are there a bounty of songs, but so much passion, emotion, and meaning has been poured not just into the lyrics, but into how the album was made.
The first half of Solitary Tracks "marks a deep-feeling acknowledgment of his solitary place," whereas the second half "is the start of a new phase." The album is a reflection of who he is now, and a premonition of where he wants to go next.
Solitary Tracks has been described to WOC as "a resonant opus from beginning to end, and a testament to Moore's wanderlust to pave his own path and explore new horizons." Considering the structure of the album, the album does feel like a journey.
You do feel like you're walking with Kip Moore as you sift through the album. An hour and a half of Moore for company, you won't be pining for more. Unless you're a super fan, I suppose, then enough is never really enough.
Solitary Tracks is available on streaming services now.
Kip Moore's Sixth Album Is A Journey From Start To End
For those who follow Kip Moore's music closely, six of these songs will sound mighty familiar. Kip Moore released a few tracks early, but they now have a home in the album.
"Bad Spot," "Flowers In December," and "Learning As I Go" were hit with critical and fan acclaim. "Live Here To Work," "Wildfire," and "Around You" were also released before the album, leaving us with 17 new songs, which is still more than most albums have.
However, one track that sticks with me, funnily enough, is "Alley Cat." It's just so different from the other tender and solemn songs on the album. It immediately hits, and is a toe-tapper from start to end. It's just a lot of fun.
Quite like an alley cat, the song sticks out like heckles against the other songs, and it's weirdly fitting. I love it. More upbeat songs follow the track, however, to make a small passage of head-nodding goodness.
I wonder what your favorite song from the album will be?
