Gabby Was Finally Identified Because of a Microchip

Per the New York Post, Gabby was brought to the Avery Humane Society in Newland, North Carolina, in mid-December 2025. She was thought to be a stray. But alert people there checked the adorable feline for a microchip and discovered that Gabby actually belonged to a family.

The Avery Humane Society posted a message dated the next day, December 14, about the kitty on

Facebook. It described the cute pet as a "brown tabby cat with bright green eyes." Fortunately Gabby was finally reunited with her owners after such a long time away from them. They must have been shocked but thrilled to have her back home again.

The Shelter Strongly Advocates Microchipping Pets

The shelter's Facebook post urges people to consider microchipping pets. Their animals can thus be returned to them if they are separated from their owners by unforeseen circumstances. The post reads in part, "Microchips are more than just a number; they are a lifeline. In times of chaos, natural disasters, or even everyday accidents, they can be the one thing that brings a lost pet home. But a microchip only works if the information attached to it is kept up to date."

It continues, "Please take a moment to check your pet's microchip registration and make sure your contact information is current. That small step can make the difference between heartbreak and a happy reunion. After 443 days apart, this family got their miracle — and it all started with a microchip."

And dedicated people who cared enough to check the chip for its valuable information!
