Seoul police opened a probe into the singer's passing. They confirmed cardiac arrest but ruled out foul play. The news hit hard, coming less than a month after actress Kim Sae-ron, 24, ended her life in Seoul.

Wheesung, born Choi Whee-sung, stormed the music scene in 2002. He rocketed to stardom in South Korea with soulful ballads, cementing R&B's foothold in the industry. His standout voice earned praise from legends like Shin Seung-hun and Seo Tae-ji. He took his talents worldwide, performing even in Hollywood.

Later, he guided up-and-coming K-Pop stars, mentoring top talent for a decade. He planned a Daegu show with ballad singer KCM this weekend. Organizers axed it after his death. Trouble struck in 2021 when courts handed him a two-year suspended sentence for abusing propofol -- the drug tied to Michael Jackson's demise.

Singer Missed Meeting

Police aim to autopsy his body to nail down the time of death. They spotted no signs of foul play and now hunt for a note, The Straits Times reported. His mother, a neighbor in the same building, checked on him after he skipped a manager meeting, Yonhap News Agency said. She found him lifeless.

Wheesung's agency, TAJOYENT, labeled it a "heartbreaking and tragic" blow. "He suffered cardiac arrest at his Seoul home and died," they announced. "His family, fellow artists, and staff mourn deeply."

Peers rushed to honor him. Singer Yoon Min-soo uploaded a duet video, writing, "Wheesung, sing freely there. Your pure heart lives on with me." Rapper Verbal Jint posted a black square on Instagram, noting, "Every moment honored me. Rest in peace."

The K-pop world took another hit last month. K-drama star Kim Sae-ron killed herself at 24, leaving a haunting Instagram nod to Moonbin, a K-Pop idol lost to suspected suicide in 2023 at 25. Moonbin, of Astro fame, died in his Gangnam-gu apartment. Wheesung's death piles onto the industry's growing toll.
