It takes a long time to train yourself not to be such a people pleaser all the time. It's incredibly easy to find yourself contorting to try and fit everything someone wants. It's vital to have some sense of discernment to pass on something. That's not to be overly calloused either. But if you overwork yourself, you'll mess around and end up resenting what you love and care about in the end.

This is especially true for big artists like Lainey Wilson, who find it increasingly easy to spread themselves too thin. This is where it's important to have important voices in your life. For Wilson, one of those people was Dolly Parton.
Recently, Lainey went on the Reign With Josh Smith podcast amidst her tour throughout Europe. Typically, everyone wants to know what it's like to work with the queen of the country, Dolly Parton, and what she's like. What stands out is the crucial bit of advice that she gave Wilson. "I spent ten minutes with the lady, and in those ten minutes, I was trying to soak up everything she had to say," Lainey recalls.

"She asked me, she said, 'Do you have a good manager?' And I was like 'Yeah.' She said, 'Well, is he an a**hole?' And I said, 'Yes she is.' And she was like, 'You need somebody who can speak on your behalf. You need somebody who can say no if you need it,'" Lainey adds.
"This is where that sense of discernment really kicks in. Ultimately, your instincts should tell you when and when not to do something. If you truly care about it, you'll always find the time for it. And I asked her, I said, 'How do you decide to this day what you do, what you don't?'" Lainey recalls. "And she said, 'Everything I do, I have to be really excited, and genuinely fired up about doing it.' She said 'Yeah, it might seem like I'm doing a lot, but it's because I care about everything I'm doing.'"
