Lainey Wilson Slams Online Scammers Pretending to Be Her: "There's Literally Nothing I Can Do"

I admire Lainey Wilson so much. She speaks out when she sees something is wrong. Like the other day, she talked about devious AI-generated stories and pics that seem to be of her and other celebs. With her fame and gutsiness, Wilson draws attention to issues such as that one that trouble her. She has done it again with another serious issue - online scammers, per Whiskey Riff.

Some of these dark web inhabitants pretend to be famous people. They are so convincing that they trick hapless victims into sending them money - lots of it. These ploys have become more sophisticated and authentic-looking, thanks to technology and the unscrupulousness of the perpetrators. They fool even those who consider themselves scam-savvy. And they con big bucks out of those who can least afford to lose it.

Per the outlet, "But aside from people losing money, the scams can also have other real-world consequences - like people losing their marriages." Scammers act like they are renowned people and they then pull the wool over their targets' eyes.

When she guested on This Past Weekend with Theo Von, Wilson sounded the alarm about this deceptive practice. She feels awful for the innocent, trusting people who get tricked.

"What I've noticed is it's like a certain age group. It's probably lonely people, whether they're married or not they're lonely. And they just find the right person. They must try it to a million people to find the right person to actually convince. And they're asking for money, and they just give them lots of money. Lots of money. And it's sad."

Rifts Have Been Caused in Marriages by Imposters Claiming They Are Lainey

Wilson gets upset when she talks about the problems that have arisen due to these con artists. Especially when they claim to be her! "The amount of messages I get about...people who think that they are actually in a relationship with me and stuff because somebody's pretending to be me. It's really bad. I've ruined a couple of marriages on accident and didn't even mean to. They're like, 'My husband of 30 years believes he's talking to you and this and that and whatever.'"

All Wilson can do is warn unsuspecting members of the public. "There's literally nothing I can do, besides telling y'all about it."
