Larry David Scorches Trump's UFC Freedom 250 Event at the White House: "A Travesty"

Comedian Larry David is not too pleased about President Donald Trump's hosting of the recent UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House. The Curb Your Enthusiasm star and co-creator of Seinfeld, 78, made some blisteringly critical comments about the splashy occasion. David was at the June 23 Hollywood premiere of his new HBO special, Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America. He seized the moment to shred Trump's sporting spectacle on June 14, which was also the prez's 80th birthday.

"It Was Embarrassing"

David spoke plainly to Variety about his disdain for the high-profile UFC Washington bout. "It was a travesty. What else can you say about it? It was embarrassing. I was embarrassed to be an American."

A Senator Then Clapped Back at Larry David

A Democratic senator, John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, appeared to be offended at David's remarks. Speaking to TMZ, Fetterman offered his own blunt take on the matter.

He shared, "I'd say you lighten up, Francis, you know, really kind of and really kind of get over himself, you know, like, uh, hey, I'm proud to be American, and if you are embarrassed or whatever because of a UFC thing, get over yourself, dude....You know, like, seriously, like, get over yourself, dude."

It is unclear what the legislator meant when he called Larry David "Francis."

Commenters Expressed Themselves Online

Many people on Reddit seemingly sided with Larry David on this one. In fact, they were apparently as turned off by the UFC festivities at the White House as he was. They appreciated his all-out candor.

"Right with Larry here especially the pain in his eyes saying that. I always voted against Trump at every turn so I'm not necessarily responsible. But I am still embarrassed just watching the most corrupt/facist admin in our history. No I'm not a bot im just trying to fight back against this madness in my own way...."

"Larry is even holding back, you can see how much he's weighing his words, for what he really wants to shout. But thanks for not coming up with a nothing answer."

"Larry speaking for us all"

"We are all embarrassed."

"Same, Larry. Same."
