Lauren Alaina Welcomed Two Fuzzy Visitors to the Grand Ole Opry

Monsters Elmo and Abby Cadabby made their Grand Ole Opry debuts with Lauren Alaina as part of its 100th anniversary celebration.

It wasn't a scary creature from a sci-fi movie. It was a furry, friendly red monster who made everyone laugh and smile.

That's right, Elmo made his Grand Ole Opry debut. Looking snazzy in a blue cowboy shirt and hat, he joined Alaina in her first Opry appearance since the birth of her daughter in June.

As she welcomed her duet partner to the stage, Alaina said to the audience, "All the way from Sesame Street, please make some noise for my friend Elmo!"

Before the duo performed the hit "Road Less Traveled," Elmo asked Alaina if she liked his bolo tie.

"I do like that bolo tie," she replied. "You look like a cowboy."

Lauren Alaina and Elmo Weren't the Only Duet That Night

Later in the show, Abby Cadabby also visited the Grand Ole Opry stage.

Sesame Street's resident fairy was joined by Tayla Lynn, the granddaughter of the late Opry member Loretta Lynn, for a performance of "You're Lookin' at Country."

"We sing all the time on Sesame Street," Abby Cadabby told the Associated Press. "Being able to sing in the home of country music is amazing!"

Elmo and Abby Cadabby Are Considering Going Country

When asked what they would write about if they were putting together a country song, the two Muppets had to put on their thinking caps.

"I would probably sing something about Rocko," said Elmo. As parents familiar with Sesame Street may know, Rocko is his friend Zoe's pet rock. Elmo often gets frustrated with Zoe because she insists Rocko is alive and often has to share with it.

Abby Cadabby thought of a much more imaginative song subject.

"I might sing about a guitar-playing pickle pickin' in a pickle patch with a penguin eating pizza," she said. "Or maybe I'll sing about my friend Big Bird."

Elmo Has His Next Duet Partner in Mind

Now that he's performed at the Grand Ole Opry with Alaina, Elmo wants his next duet to be with Dolly Parton.

"Maybe we can do 'Jolene' together," he said. "Come on, Dolly! Call Elmo!"
