Clever Lineman Nudges Bear Safely off Utility Pole

What would you do if you were a lineman and were confronted with a bear perched on the utility pole you were working on? Probably yell for help and hope the enormous shaggy creature had eaten lunch already. A situation like that cropped up in Arizona recently, per Fox News on X. The adroit lineman used his smarts instead of his scream and safely dislodged the bear from his high vantage point. That must have saved it from being electrocuted as well. Hopefully it found another way to have fun elsewhere. What it was doing in the middle of the desert is a tale for a different day.....

The Weird Incident Was Captured on Video

The video shows the lineman standing in a bucket aloft wielding a pole to maneuver the animal down. He seems to be poking the bear, who isn't ready to give up yet. The lineman appears to be sort of aggressively using the pole to get the result he wants. After a number of unsuccessful tries, the bear realizes he's licked. He finally clambers down the pole in a hurry and scoots off, maybe to another adventure.

People Offered Their Comments and Opinions on Social Media

Most of them were likely glad that it wasn't them in that bucket hassling the bear. They congratulated the lineman for his quick thinking and persistence, thus saving the animal from an apparently dire fate.

"Lucky. One wrong move and it would have been 'game over'"

"How did he get there?"

"That bear was lucky it didn't get electrocuted. Fairly certain those lines has thousands of volts in them. Higher voltages mean that the current can more easily pass through a given body of resistance. Current (I) = Voltage/Resistance."

"Fantastic work! You are a good person for you protect the animal!"

"That's definitely not in the job description. Cool ending!"

"A bear in the middle of the desert"

"that lineman's quick thinking saved the bear. impressive."

"What a pair! This lineman is my today's hero he could have been tossed out of the bucket by the bear, Happy for a happy ending for all."
