Lost Dog Street Band has released eight albums since their debut, Sick Pup, in 2011. However, after 14 years of music-making, the Americana-folk band is taking a hiatus from its artistic endeavors.

The band consists of duo Benjamin Tod Flippo and Ashley Mae, who have been making music since they met as teenagers. In 2010, the pair formed Lost Dog Street Band, which they named after their shared Labrador, Daisy. Their underground project eventually gained mainstream recognition with the release of projects like Weight Of A Trigger in 2019.
In 2022, while releasing his solo album, Songs I Swore I'd Never Sing, Tod chose to take a step back. He said that he wanted to focus on his own community and refine his personal sound.
He shared at the time, "The older I get, the more I care about my community and my family, and the less I care about performing and interacting with the larger world. There are a lot of reasons for this change in my priorities."
"After 2022, I will be taking a step away from touring and being a public figure in the capacity I have been. I will continue to write, make music videos, and give my 2 cents from time to time, but I have to take a step back and decide what the next step is for me..."
Tod later shared that he couldn't part with the band just yet. "After recording my solo album, I looked over all the songs that I had ready for a new record. These were songs for my band. I had to admit to myself that I wasn't done with Lost Dog."
Now, both Tod and Mae are coming online to say that they might be taking a more permanent hiatus. This time, it seems a little more real.
Lost Dog Is Going on Hiatus, and It's Not a False Alarm
While on tour for their 2024 record, Survived, Tod and Mae have revealed that they are taking a more permanent pause. However, it's probably not for the reason fans would expect. While on the road, the pair uploaded a video to Instagram to share the release of their new live album, but also some other news.
"Howdy folks, Benjamin Tod here. Tonight at midnight, we will be dropping a live album with the Lost Dog from the Oedogen Theatre in Denver, Colorado. It will be the last release with Lose Dog Street Band, which will be going on hiatus because..."
At this point, Tod gestured to his wife, who held up photos of an ultrasound. "We're having a baby!" the couple announced.
Benjamin also shared that he would be going on tour in 2026 as a solo act. Meanwhile, his wife would stay home. "I will start touring in 2026 under Benjamin Tod and the Inline Six...Ashley Mae will keep the home fires burning."
We could not be more thrilled for this duo, although this definitely marks the bittersweet end to an era of good music. We hope this isn't goodbye forever, but it might be goodbye for a really long time for Lost Dog Street Band.
