Luke Bryan Nabs Another No. 1 Hit With 'Country Song Came On'

"When I first heard this song, it took me right back to the clubs and honky tonks I played before I got to Nashville," Bryan says of the honor. "I love how the writers kept the simplicity in the track and let the lyric paint the story. WOW #32! I love standing on that stage for country fans more than ever. Thank you for showing up for me."

Ryan Beaver, Dan Alley and Neil Medley are the songwriters behind "Country Song Came On."

"It's just a classic country song," Bryan says of the song. "It's a song that I've always really - I used to cover songs like this, from Brooks & Dunn to Clint Black. All the honky tonk songs, and this is my version of that. The first time I heard it, I was like, 'That says everything I wanted to say.'"

"Country Song Came On" Was Not Written For Luke Bryan

"Country Song Came On" sounds like it was tailor-made for Bryan, but it actually was written for another artist instead. Bryan reveals the song was intended for his good friend, Blake Shelton, except Bryan got to it first.

"When I got the demo, the guy's voice on the demo had a lot of similarities to Blake's voice," Bryan tells Taste of Country.

Bryan admits he still isn't sure if Shelton ever heard it, nor was he going to find out before claiming the song as his own.

"I'm not sure if it had got to Blake, but it was something that I really rolled around in my truck and loved and fell in love with," Bryan says.

"Had it been something that it wasn't for me, I probably would have texted Blake and said, 'Hey man, I hear a song that really feels like something special for you,'" he adds.

Fortunately, Bryan and Shelton are actually good friends, so there are likely no hard feelings.
