Luke Bryan Predicts If Carrie Underwood Will Return To 'American Idol' Next Season

Luke Bryan is offering his prediction on whether Carrie Underwood will return for the next season of American Idol. Underwood enjoyed her inaugural season earlier this year, joined by Bryan and Lionel Richie. Underwood filled the place left vacant when Katy Perry exited the show.

"I know she had a great time in the role," Bryan tells Taste of Country, adding that he thinks the former American Idol winner will return for another season.

"My prediction would be highly favorable," he adds.

Underwood has yet to comment on her return. But she did say last year that she found the role interesting, 20 years after she was crowned the Season 4 winner.

"I was nervous coming in because it's a different ballgame," Underwood says on Audacy's Superstar Power Hour. "Sitting on the other side of the table, more than anything, I want to help all of these people coming through, and help them become better performers and live their dreams. So I want to be constructive and tell them things they can work on. But then you're like, 'Am I coming across mean?'. Or, 'How is it gonna turn out?' I'm really happy getting to watch the first little bits of it."

Luke Bryan Reveals If He Will Return to 'American Idol'

Bryan has been part of American Idol since it moved to ABC in 2018. While fans might think Bryan's return is a certainty, the 49-year-old admits he actually isn't sure.

"Idol is kind of a year-by-year, 'Do we do it or not?'" Bryan reflects. Still, he does acknowledge that this past season was one of his favorites, which might tip the scales in his favor.

"Last year was really really incredible with Carrie and Lionel and Ryan," Bryan boasts. "And the main thing is just, have fun with American Idol and have fun with the kids."

"We'll see what happens," he adds.

Whether or not Bryan remains on American Idol, he does concede that the show changed him as a person, for the better.

"It's taught me to come from a small town in South Georgia and see the melting pot that America is," Bryan tells Billboard. "For me to be able to witness that through the youth and their stories and their differences and watching music bringing us all together, it's been very enlightening for me."
