Major Singer Appears In Most Bizarre Super Bowl Commercial I’ve Ever Seen

Super Bowl commercials are always a little weird. That is what makes them so great. They are in a class by themselves. The nuttier, the better. But this one featuring Seal, 61, is too far out for words. The singer appears in the ad as a seal. Yep, that is right - a seal. He did it to promote Mountain Dew. Although the ad is incredibly strange, it's actually hard to look away from it. Maybe that is what the creators of the spot were counting on.

What The Commercial Depicts

Per the New York Post, "The commercial opens with Mountain Dew's Mountain Dude offering singer Becky G the company's Baja Blast flavored drink. After accepting and taking a sip, Seal's transported to the ocean, landing in a boat driven by Mountain Dude."

What we glimpse next is too jaw-dropping to even describe. I will try my best to do it justice. It's a bunch of seals sunning themselves upon a rock - with Seal as the seal-in-chief, if you will. (This requires a massive suspension of disbelief, as you might imagine.)

Seal's Hit Song, 'A Kiss From A Rose,' Makes An Appearance

The creatures are singing Seal's hit song, "A Kiss From A Rose." The only thing more wacky than people dressed as seals are ones that sing. The lyrics of the 1994 tune have been altered to fit the scene and the beverage pitch.

Try this on for size. Per the outlet, "Baby, I compare it to a kiss from a lime, on the bay, Ohh, the more I think about it, it's strange I'm a seal yeah."

Following the alarming swim-by of a menacing pair of sharks, Seal keeps singing thus: "There's so much a seal can tell you, so much he can say. Dew remains my power, my pleasure, my flame."

He Viewed The Whole Thing As A Bit Of Welcome Comic Relief

According to the Post via Today, Seal seemingly thought the ad was a real hoot all around. "I did have to laugh because it was done in, kind of in good humor ... There are aspects and parts of my life that are really serious, that require focus and responsibility and accountability. And so, anytime I get a chance to laugh and make fun of myself with a meme that was with my head on a seal, I mean, it's hilarious and it's a good antidote of relief to the seriousness of life."

Seal Was Also Grateful That People Still Recall His Song

Per the Post, Seal said, "I'm a kid from a working-class area of London born in the '60s with nothing but a lot of dreams and a voice, And so, if you'd have told me I would have one song, just one song that would make such a difference and turn out to be an iconic song that most people around the world know, well ... it's amazing. I don't take one bit for granted."
