A man in China has somehow survived being impaled through his skull with a metal rod. If you were born to be shot, you'll never be drowned, I guess.

It was after a few drinks that the grievous injury occurred. Aqiang had had a few too many and tried to stand up in the restaurant where he was drinking. He stumbled and fell, smashing his face into a table. He landed badly, and a metal rod penetrated his skull, pushing its way up into his brain.
His fellow drinkers were horrified to see blood pouring from his mouth. He was rushed to the nearest hospital, where he underwent life-saving surgery. Somehow, he had survived, with the metal rod narrowly avoiding critical parts of his brain.
Life Saving Surgery To Remove Metal Rod From His Head
But doctors were amazed to find that the metal rod in his skull had not damaged anything vital. However, that didn't mean the surgery was straightforward. It took the surgeons of Shenzhen University General Hospital ten hours to save the man's life.
The metal rod embedded in his skull wasn't clean. So, as well as making sure not to damage more vital areas of the man's brain, they also had to avoid infection. A surgeon working on the impaled man said, "This foreign object carried a lot of bacteria. The path it penetrated the patient involves his mouth, eyes and brain. Any small, careless operation might lead to a fatal problem."
To make matters worse, the metal rod in the man's skull had a hook on the end. This made removing it even harder. But, due to their professionalism, they were able to save his life. After his surgery, he had to stay in the hospital for a month to ensure his wounds healed and to fight possible infection.
Since the operation, the man has miraculously retained his cognitive functions and speech. The only remaining damage is to partial sight in one of his eyes. He was incredibly lucky; that is all he was left with. I imagine he will think twice before drinking himself under the table in the future.
