Megan Moroney is among the rising stars of country music. She has achieved fame, success, and staying power. With half a dozen noms to her credit for the upcoming CMA Awards next month, she has clearly arrived. But Moroney says that years ago,before she was a familiar figure to audiences nationwide, she was a dedicated Kacey Musgraves fangirl. Recently, when Moroney. 28. was a guest on the Therapuss podcast hosted by Jake Shane, she acknowledged the significant role that Musgraves has played in her burgeoning career.

Her songwriting skill has been influenced by some music industry heavyweights like Miranda Lambert, and definitely Kacey Musgraves. Moroney said, "Miranda and Kacey. I think Taylor {Swift], too, obviously. I grew up on her music, but Kacey was the first artist that made me want to write my own music."
Musgraves and Moroney Were Both up for a Big Award at the CMAs in 2024
Both artists were nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2024 CMA Awards. (Lainey Wilson won.) Moroney reflected on that experience plus an earlier one. "It was really cool because I grew up loving Kacey Musgraves. I even waited outside of her bus at a show in Alabama, and I got to meet her. And then we shared a dressing room at the CMA Awards last year."
Musgrave, 37, was very gracious to Moroney that evening. Per the podcast, Moroney added, "When I met her too, I wasn't expecting [anything] because she was performing, and award shows are just stressful. I wasn't even expecting her to take the time to take a picture with me or anything 'cause the CMAs put us together. She could have been like, 'Girl... remember when you stalked me behind the bus? Now I have to share a dressing room with this girl?'"
Moroney continued, "But she was so kind and sweet and was like, 'Thanks for all the nice things you always say about me.' And [she] took the time to get pictures, and it was just really sweet. I just love her."
Moroney Is a Bona Fide Star Herself Now
She has put herself on the music map for a long time to come. The singer has already landed honors from the ACM, CMA, CMT, and MTV. I hope Moroney still has plenty of room on her mantel for all the awards she will undoubtedly garner in the future!
