Miley Cyrus Reveals She Lied To Dolly Parton About Writing Two Hits Because She Was Embarrassed

Having Dolly Parton as a godmother is as close to the mystical fairy tale version as anyone is ever going to get. Miley Cyrus recently opened up about how her godmother, Dolly Parton, worked her magic and summoned two hits from her with a wave of her hand.

While Miley Cyrus visited Dolly Parton a few years ago, talk inevitably got around to music. There are few minds as rich with knowledge and insight as Dolly's. Even someone like Miley has a lot to learn. She had the chance to play her a track, and so she went ahead and performed "Something Beautiful" for her.

But, as Cyrus revealed on the Zane Lowe Show, Dolly Parton wanted more. Talking about the country star's reaction, she recalls, "She goes, 'Alright, I see what you're doing. Got any hits?" You don't want to disappoint Parton, so when she asks for more, you give her more.

Clamoring, Miley said, "I'm like, 'I do actually.' She goes, 'Oh really? What's it called?' More to Lose," she told her. And sure, she had thought of the track name, but the song didn't exist. There was barely a whiff of the beginnings of it.

"[I] had not written it yet. But I knew the title," Miley Cyrus recalled. "I was like, 'I'll send it to you.' And she goes, 'Well, you got any more?' I was like, 'Well..." So away she went and called up her producer. The queen of country had demanded a track, and it was up to Miley to deliver.

Dolly Parton Pressured Inspiration Into Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus went away with a need to deliver the promised track to Dolly Parton. All she had was a self-imposed deadline, brought on by a lie, and the waiting audience of her godmother. Speaking about her chat with her producer, she said, " 'We got to write this song.' He goes, 'Well, let's do it!' He had a song that he had already started with another writer whom I had never met [Autumn Rowe], and I had never heard any of it, but he goes, 'It's funny, I think some of this melody will work that I've been working on.' And so I was like, 'Well, I don't know, but I told her I'll send it to her, so we've got to write this ASAP.'"

Only a few weeks later, Miley Cyrus had made good on her lie to Dolly Parton and pulled a new track out of the bag. She played it and got her approval. But Cyrus didn't learn. As soon as she finished, Dolly asked the same question, and Miley put herself back in the same situation.

"Got any more?"

"I was like, 'I do actually, and I think you're really going to like the title.' And meanwhile I'm going, 'What titles do I have in my head?' And I'm like, 'I've got a song called 'Every Girl You've Ever Loved,' and you're going to love that." And the cycle started again.

But, as Miley admits, "I hadn't even written the song yet, so all because of her did those two songs ever get created." In true fairy godmother fashion, Dolly Parton had magicked two tracks from Miley Cyrus.
