Miranda Lambert Explains Why She Stopped Setting New Year’s Resolutions

Miranda Lambert has opened up to us about her strained relationship with New Year's Resolutions, and I think we can all take something interesting away from her new approach to these typically daunting challenges.

The country singer performed at CBS Network's New Year's Eve Live: Nashville's Big Bash, alongside many other talented singers. Ahead of the big send-off to 2024, Lambert stood with Bunnie XO for a brief interview, as shared by

They conducted the interview in Casa Rosa, Lambert's bar in Nashville (naturally).

Lambert mentioned how she would be performing two new songs from her album Postcards From Texas released in September last year (it feels weird writing that). She divulged that one would be "Dammit Randy," and the other a cover of David Allen Coe's "Living On the Run."

Then Bunnie XO got down to business and asked Lambert, "What is a New Year's Eve Resolution that you, for some reason, just cannot seem to nail it?"

Lambert Explains Her Typical New Year's Resolution

"Oh God," Lambert began.

"It's usually cussing less, drinking less, less of everything," she said.

Then she explained her stand-in for resolutions, which is something I think we all could benefit from, "But, you know, I stopped setting resolutions, I set intentions now. Which is a little bit more doable, less scary."

I love the idea of intentions over resolutions, as one intention can be the umbrella for many different goals. Knowing what you're striving for is better than simply a task. Instead of setting your resolution as going to the gym every day, for example, you can intend for a healthier lifestyle.

This intention factors in exercise, diet, and mental health without a harsh deadline or goal that'll keep looming over you.

I'm not typically one for New Year's resolutions anyway, as every day is an opportunity to do better and reach your goals. But setting an intention for the coming 365 is useful to guide yourself, so thanks, Lambert.

Whoever you are, wherever you are, I hope you have a happy new year.
