I have heard of big families, but this family takes the cake. In a tell all interview this mom who has 20 kids opens up about what it is like having such a large family.

The World's Biggest Family

Shoot maybe even something wild like eight or nine people. I mean if it is a family of eight that means those parents had six kids, which is a lot. Now maybe I am biased. Being an only child it doesn't take much for me to consider someone's family bigger than mine, but this family....I don't think there is any beating them.
Desiree and Christopher Hart-Spegal share 20 children together. That's right, take a second to wrap your head around it...20 kids! When they met back in 2013, Desiree already had three children from a previous marriage and Christopher had eight. For most people, you would assume those 11 children would be enough. However, for Desiree and Christopher, they decided blending their families was not enough, they wanted to add some children of their own.
Together, they had eight more kids, bringing their new child total to 19. However, who wants an odd number am I right? Baby 20 is now on the way and expected May 21, 2025. The one cool thing about this last baby is that it evens the score. Now the family will have 10 boys and 10 girls.
The Truth About Having A Large Family
When you have a family this large, there are sure to be ups and downs. So what does having a large family actually entail? Desiree and Christopher shared the truth of it all in an interview. "Everything is a big event for us," the mom of 20 kids admitted. Yea...no kidding! However one thing that having a large family provides is "constant entertainment."
The kids seem to enjoy it as well. When asked how they would feel if they were an only child they expressed fear that it would be lonely or boring. Although one child did admit that it sounded rather peaceful. While this family is full of immense joy, the mom of 20 kids does admit that having a large family comes with its challenges.
Not only is monitoring 20 kids difficult, but keeping the house tidy is also a challenge. Desiree does two loads of laundry every day, and 10 loads every Saturday. Additionally, Christopher admits it is a challenge "constantly making sure there 's enough food in the house" for all of their children. I can't even imagine. Right now it is just my husband, myself, and our dog and I feel like we spend a fortune on food. So to feed 22 mouths, I cannot even begin to imagine the cost. If you were curious, it is around $26,000 a year.
The Internet Is Divided
Having such a large family causes some mixed reactions online. After all, it is not every day you see a family with 20 kids. Some people are very invested in the large brood and are excited for the 20th and final child. However, others are disgusted by the family's lifestyle and want to make sure they know about it.
Comments like "this should be illegal" and "you're overpopulating the world" constantly flood their Instagram feed. However other comments focus more on their concern for the 20 kids and their wellbeing. For example one person commented, "There's absolutely no way all those kids [are] receiving the empathy and quality one on one time they deserve."
However Christopher ensures viewers that all of their children are well cared for. "We have an open door policy at our house," the father of 20 stated. "When you need time you get time. When you want time, there is time." Despite some of the pushback, Desiree says the majority of their comments are supportive and loving. Also, regardless of the response she always tries to respond in a polite and informative way.
Her main goal or wish for her family is to populate the world with kind, generous, and good people. From what I can see in this video, it seems like she is doing just that. And like Christopher's brother says, if the apocalypse ever does happen, this family has their own team ready to go.
