Morgan Wallen's career just keeps powering mightily along at full speed. Named Entertainer of the Year at the CMA Awards in November, he has become - dare I say it? - the face of a bold new generation of country music singers. Wallen is wildly popular, has a pile of great songs in his repertoire, and the long-past days when he was booted off The Voice are firmly in his rear-view mirror. This is a guy who does not forget or disappoint his fans. For that reason and probably others, the former Mullet Man dropped a new single, "Smile," that is guaranteed to help you usher in the New Year with a big ol' grin on your face, per Whiskey Riff.

His Fans Got What They Yearned For
The song was penned by the team of Rocky Block, Luis Witkiewitz, John Byron, Ernest, Ryan Vojtesak, and Wallen himself. It's about a relationship that crashed hard, but the narrator is glad his gal smiled, if just to take a photo.

It Is An Ideal Accompaniment To Morgan Wallen's Song
The video is superb. It underscores the melancholy mood of "Smile" perfectly. It begins with Wallen sitting in his dressing room, waiting to go onstage for a make-believe TV show. It's New Year's Eve. He looks disconsolate. We see a woman sitting there too, with her back to us.
He goes out to the set to perform, but instead of singing "Love Somebody" like he is expected to, Wallen starts singing "Smile." The crew of the show is completely baffled. A warning flashes ominously on the teleprompter - "Off Script."
Still, Wallen keeps singing "Smile." Backstage, the staff notices that viewership seems to be increasing as shown by an upward-trajectory line on their computer screen. They begin to relax.
Wallen finishes his song and trudges back to his dressing room. Meanwhile, out front, the show host counts down with the audience until the stroke of midnight. A batch of glittery confetti falls as the first day of a new year begins. The woman who was previously in Wallen's dressing room has left. He is alone. Again, Wallen seems morose.
