Class of 2025 Inducted Into Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame: Seven New Members Include Emmylou Harris, Brad Paisley

The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame inducted its Class of 2025 on Monday, October 6. The distinguished group includes Emmylou Harris, JJ Cale, Steve Bogard, Tony Martin, Brad Paisley, Don Cook, and Jim Lauderdale. These talented and dedicated country music professionals were all celebrated at the 55th Annual Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala. The event was held at the Music City Center, per Country Now.

According to the outlet, "The celebration was voiced by legendary announcer Bill Cody, host of 650 AM WSM's Coffee, Country & Cody and a Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Famer."

There Was a Moving Tribute to Three People Who Passed Away

A trio of Nashville Songwriters Hall of Famers who died during the preceding year were recognized for their work. They were Brett James, Troy Seals, and Sonny Curtis. Kenny Chesney honored James with a performance of "When the Sun Goes Down," which was a notable co-write of theirs.

Harris delivered an eloquent and heartfelt address to the audience. "I stand here as someone who is grateful that I've been able to write songs...I stand here as a champion of a songwriter, all of you here, who put in the work day in, day out, year after year as someone who lives off the song and appreciates the work, the hard work, and the artistry that goes into a writing a song...."

Paisley spoke poignantly about his beginnings in the music business. "I came to this town and I wanted to be you. I have spent my entire time living here, here copying the songwriters that I love... I moved here really wanting to be a songwriter because I knew that's the community. That's the thing that makes this town so unique...."

Contemporary Songwriter Category: Steve Bogard

Bogard talked about the uniqueness of Music City and what makes it such a special place. "The remarkable thing about being inducted into the Nashville Songwriter Hall thing, it's not the fame part, it's the Nashville part, because the pay it forward humanity of our music community is like no one nowhere else on earth. It's at the heart of why so many great songs come from here..."

Contemporary Songwriter Category: Tony Martin

Martin, who has written tracks for stars like Keith Urban, Jason Aldean, and Sara Evans, explained to the outlet, "I love songs. Like I say, I grew up here, I grew up among all these old legends in the current greats and to be called a songwriter and then called Nashville where I grew up. You couldn't put a nicer tag on me."

Legacy Category: JJ Cale

Cale, who died in 2013 at the age of 74, had his songs recorded by artists such as Waylon Jennings, Eric Clapton, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. His wife, Christine Lakeland, attended the Gala and accepted Cale's posthumous honor.

Contemporary Songwriter / Artist Category: Jim Lauderdale

Lauderdale crafted songs that became hits for people like George Strait and Patty Loveless. To the outlet, he said, "In this business, there's so many ups and downs and more downs than ups and struggle. I think all writers and all recording artists, we've really got to keep at it. And so when something good comes along, it's just very, it's overwhelming."

Veteran Songwriter Category: Don Cook

Cook's songs have been performed by country music standouts like Brooks & Dunn and Lee Greenwood. He was thrilled and grateful for the accolade. Cook shared with the outlet, "For guys like me, it's like somebody calling you and telling you you're getting the Academy Award for the best actor. I mean, it's that big for me. These are my friends and my heroes that I look up to the most."
