Nebraska University Track Athlete Dies in Head On Collision

Matthew Wing, a track athlete at Concordia University, has sadly passed away in a car crash. Three other athletes for the were also injured.

Matthew Wing, a track athlete at Concordia University, has sadly passed away in a car crash. Three other athletes for the university were injured in the incident.

The crash occurred when Matthew's Toyota Prius collided with a Ford Explorer. The accident took place on the I-49, per the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Both cars hit head-on in the collision.

"Our Concordia Nebraska family is heartbroken," 

Concordia University wrote in a statement. "We ask for your prayers during this time, for our campus and for the family and friends of the young men involved in this accident, that we can all find comfort in God's love and healing grace."

According to Matthew's obituary, he is survived by his wife, Bri, along with his mother and father, along with his two siblings, a brother and a sister.

"Matt met Bri Worley while on a church trip to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City in 2018 with the Trinity Youth Group. Their friendship turned into love and on May 24, 2025, Matt and Brianna were married," the obituary read. "They were blessed to have had each other in their lives for the last 7 ½ years."

A Public Funeral Will Be Held for Matthew Wing

Matthew's obituary also has information on his upcoming funeral. The service will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs, MO. Matthew's father, Rev. Dan Wing, will officiate the service.

"Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the church," the obituary detailed. "In lieu of flowers, the family would suggest donations be made to help with the medical expenses of their friend, Noah Ramirez, who was also in the accident with Matt (checks made payable to Immanuel Lutheran Church) or donations to fund a track scholarship at Concordia University, Seward, NE. A memorial service will also be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2026."

Matthew's loss has undoubtedly rocked his community and the student-athletics department at Concordia. Hopefully, everyone else involved in the collision can make a full recovery without any further complications or long-lasting injuries.

The whole situation is a tragic turn of events.
