The current policies in the US are cracking down on anyone voicing their opinions about politics. Whether it's speaking out about the current administration, wars funded by the US, or feelings about DOGE, freedom of speech is being changed.
Neil Young is worried that, because of his outspoken opinions on Donald Trump, he won't be allowed back into the US. Neil Young has a dual citizenship, similar to many of the nine student protesters that were detained. He fears that this will be used as the reason.
Canadian citizen Jasmine Mooney was recently detained on the Mexico-US border, attempting to renew her visa. She was kept for twelve days on a concrete floor and even kept in chains. This is enough to spark fear into someone as openly opposed to Trump as Neil Young.
Europe Issues US Travel Warning To Citizens
Several countries in Europe, including Denmark, Finland, Germany, and the United Kingdom, have updated their travel advisories concerning the US. They are warnings for extra caution and forward planning. This comes after the detention and deportation of three German tourists.
Consequently, Neil Young has voiced his concerns about returning to the US. "If the fact that I think Donald Trump is the worst president in the history of our great country could stop me from coming back," he said on his website. "What does that say for Freedom? I love America and its people and its music and its culture. ... Remember Freedom of Speech?"
He fears that his freedom of speech no longer exists in the US. Instead, he has to censor himself for fear of imprisonment. "If I talk about Donald J. Trump, I may be one of those returning to America who is barred or put in jail to sleep on a cement floor with an aluminum blanket."
As a result, he has warned his fellow Americans about his upcoming tour. Because of his outspoken opinions, he worries he may not be able to play. Only time will tell whether or not he can return.
