Netflix has greenlit a fifth season of the romantic drama "Sweet Magnolias," bringing back showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson. The news, first reported by Deadline, arrives over two months after Season 4 premiered on the streaming platform. The series, a consistent viewer favorite, follows lifelong friends Maddie, Dana Sue, and Helen as they navigate love, family, and careers in the quaint town of Serenity, South Carolina.

The renewal decision faced hurdles. Season 4 spent only two weeks in Netflix's global Top 10 for English-language series, peaking at No. 4. Other shows with similar performance have faced cancellation. Yet, Netflix, which labels the series a "comfort drama," opted to continue the story adapted from Sherryl Woods' book series.
