"A Different World" originally aired between 1987 and 1993. The sequel will see Deborah Wayne take center stage as the lead protagonist.

"These beloved characters are returning in a major way that respects their history while engaging exciting storylines that are relevant to issues of today," Felicia Pride and executive producer Debbie Allen said.

The sequel is expected to be set at a fictional HBCU, according to Deadline.

"Throughout the season, fans will have a chance to reunite with these O.G. characters and see how their lives have evolved into 'A Different World,'"Pride and Allen continued. "And as the story unfolds, there will be more cast surprises in store for longtime fans. We can't wait for lovers of the show to experience this new chapter as a real continuation of the legacy show, and we're excited to welcome new audiences to Hillman."

Netflix Is in a Multi-Billion-Dollar Battle for Warner Bros

On the outside, it appears to be business as usual for Netflix. Bringing back a class sitcom with a modern spin will undoubtedly appease its vast userbase. Behind the scenes, the company is embroiled in a two-way, multi-billion-dollar battle for Warner Bros.

Paramount is rivalling Netflix's $82.7 billion deal. The Guardian is reporting that Warner Bros. will reject Paramount's $108 billion offer. In doing so, they would pave the way for Netflix to complete the purchase, subject to external approval.

"This acquisition will improve our offering and accelerate our business for decades to come," Greg Peters, co-CEO of Netflix, said in a recent statement. "Warner Bros. has helped define entertainment for more than a century and continues to do so with phenomenal creative executives and production capabilities. With our global reach and proven business model, we can introduce a broader audience to the worlds they create—giving our members more options, attracting more fans to our best-in-class streaming service, strengthening the entire entertainment industry and creating more value for shareholders."

Adding Warner Bros. library to their offering would establish Netflix as the dominant player in the streaming wars. However, smart show selection, such as bringing back "A Different World," will continue to play a part in keeping them on top.
