Beloved Water Theme Park in Washington State Announces Impending Closure

Wild Waves theme park is set to close toward the end of 2026 after suffering a loss of footfall and diminishing profits.

Wild Waves Theme Park opened its doors in 1977. However, 2026 will be its final year of operation, with Nov. 1 set as its final closing date. The once-popular theme park has struggled to generate revenue since the pandemic and has failed to recover in recent years.

"We are thankful for our guests, team members, and the community of Federal Way for supporting Wild Waves and creating so many thrills and great memories with families and friends," Kieran Burke, President and Owner of Premier Parks, said. "Unfortunately, the rising cost of ongoing operations since reopening after the COVID shutdown has generated millions in losses, which forces us to discontinue operations at the end of our 2026 season."

Some of the best rides at Wild Waves are the Timberhawk, which is a wooden roller coaster, the Wild Thing, and, of course, the Raging River water ride.

Wild Waves Is Set for a Final Hoorah

Despite the theme park being earmarked for closure, fans will have one more year to make some lifelong memories. That means anyone with season passes or other packages will be able to attend over the coming months without worry. The park will honor pre-purchased forms of entry.

The downside is that once the park officially closes, that will be it.

"We recognize the deep history and emotional connection many residents have with the park, and we are committed to ensuring a respectful transition while planning a project that will bring meaningful, lasting benefits to the area," Jeff Stock of EPI Realty Holdings said. "Plans for the site are currently in preliminary stages, with goals beneficial to the city and surrounding areas. Additional details will be released as the project moves through planning and community review processes."

It's hard to see such a well-loved family-fun zone announce its impending doom. Unfortunately, Wild Waves is just the latest establishment to fall victim to rising costs and diminished footfall. The pandemic significantly altered how we live our daily lives. In turn, that has put pressure on countless businesses.

But, with a year of life left, now is the perfect time to go and enjoy everything the park has to offer for one last time.
