It's the end of an era as one of the last remaining RadioShack stores closes its doors for the last time. This leaves only six left across the whole of the US. Prince Frederick, Maryland RadioShack has said goodbye to its RadioShack that has been open for 50 years.

It was an inevitable outcome for the brick-and-mortar RadioShack stores. They were once the cornerstone of US electronics retail, but times have changed. Now, most people will either visit larger department stores like Walmart or simply shop online.
Online prices are able to far outstrip anything RadioShack could ever keep up with. With import prices and no overheads, they can charge a fraction of what the outlet could. It simply didn't make sense for them to keep storefronts open.
This isn't the end for RadioShack, though. They still exist as a brand. Their licensed products can still be bought online and through certain retailers. They simply don't see the profit in keeping their stores open. So, it's not the end of them as a company, just as a visible presence on the streets.
Keep Up Or Get Left Behind For RadioShack
The face of retail has been changing for some time. More people than ever are shopping online, and giants like Target and Walmart sell everything under one roof. People are less likely to visit specific shops when what they need can be found cheaper elsewhere.
We can see the changes this has made across the board. Many hobby shops and specialist stores have gone under recently. Places like Joann Craft Store and even CVS are shutting their doors and downsizing to tighten their belts.
RadioShack has made the executive decision to stop spending money on keeping its stores open. Instead, they are moving to a distribution model. They will continue to sell online and use other outlets to sell their name-brand goods.
It makes sense in the long run. They will never keep up with online shopping or all-encompassing outlets like Walmart. They may as well just knuckle down and do what they do best, which is make electronics.
