Someone Paid $640 For A Trump-Themed Watch And There Was A Typo

A Rhode Island man's attempt to surprise his wife with a special gift backfired when a "limited edition" Donald Trump-themed watch arrived with a glaring error. Tim Petit purchased the $640 timepiece from GetTrumpWatches.com, expecting a high-quality product. Instead, the watch's face read "RUMP" instead of "TRUMP," missing a crucial "T," according to WJAR.

The mistake left Petit and his wife, Melanie, crestfallen. "I'm very disappointed. I wanted to do a special thing for her," Tim told the local station. "We expected that it would have the integrity of the president of the United States and good follow-through."

Melanie, visibly upset, questioned the oversight, asking, "How could they process this and go through something without checking their work?"

Trump Watch Sparks Frustration

The defective watch, a pink "Inauguration First Lady" model, was marketed as one of just 250 exclusive Trump Watches. The website touted its ability to attract "prosperity and love while enhancing intuition and creativity."

Yet, the prominent typo undermined its appeal, leaving Melanie in tears over the blunder. The couple's initial complaints to GetTrumpWatches went unanswered, deepening their frustration with the company's apparent lack of quality control.

Desperate for resolution, the Petits turned to WJAR to share their story. Only after the news outlet contacted GetTrumpWatches did the company respond. The retailer promptly issued an apology, replaced the faulty watch, and offered an $800 coupon as compensation, according to WJAR.

Tim expressed relief, noting, "I'm very happy with the response. Channel 10 obviously made things move very quickly."

Licensing Fine Print

GetTrumpWatches.com emphasizes that its products are not designed, manufactured, or sold by Donald Trump, the Trump Organization, or their affiliates. The company operates under a paid licensing agreement to use Trump's name, image, and likeness, a detail buried in the website's fine print.

This disclaimer highlights the disconnect between the brand's marketing and its actual operations, raising questions about oversight in the production of such high-priced items.

The incident is just one example of the risks consumers face when purchasing premium merchandise tied to prominent figures. For the Petits, what began as a heartfelt gesture turned into a public ordeal, resolved only through media intervention.
