Pat Green is sharing his favorite memory of his younger brother, John Burgess, who passed away in the recent Texas floods. Burgess passed away along with his wife, Julia, and their two sons, when they were in their RV at a campsite by the Guadalupe River that overflowed.

"My favorite memory of my brother John was when he came to me - I had bought him a Nissan Pathfinder," Green recalls. "It was yellow, and it had nine million miles on it. But he didn't have a car, so I helped him out. And he hocked it to have a keg party. He was very young. He was in college at TCU. Long story short: I told him, I'm not buying him two cars, but I'll come over and have a beer. He was the best, just the best."
Green misses his brother deeply, and will always feel his absence in his life.
"John and I, we were just buddies," Green says. "We went fishing all the time, stuff like that... None of my family is me. It's about us. It's really not about me."
How Pat Green Is Helping The Texas Flood Victims
Even amid his profound grief, Green is doing his part to help others impacted by the devastating flood. Green recently raised more than one million dollars by headlining a benefit concert, Pat Green & Friends Texas Flood Relief Livestream. Green was joined for the event by numerous big stars, including Miranda Lambert, Jon Pardi, Dierks Bentley, Parker McCollum, Jamey Johnson, Corey Kent and many more.
"I've always believed in the power of the community of musicians and music fans," Green says. "They all came together last night, where that belief was confirmed in the most beautiful way."
Green also spoke out about the benefit on social media.
"I've always believed in the power of the community of musicians and music fans," Green writes. "Everyone came together last night, where that belief was confirmed in the most beautiful way. Over $1 million raised for flood victims by the end of the broadcast alone. The donation link will stay live for a few more days, if you want to be a part of it."
Proceeds from the event will go to Kerr County Relief, TEXSAR and the Do It For Durrett Foundation via The Pat Green Foundation. Donations can still be made here.
