Popeyes Is Going To War With McDonald's With New Menu Item

Popeyes is encroaching on McDonald's turf with a new limited-time menu addition. Not many can step up to the plate and challenge those daunting golden arches. But Popeyes might have something special on their hands.

Undercutting the return of the popular McDonald's Snack Wrap, Popeyes has given the people what they want early. The Popeyes Chicken Wrap is here. The new item will be available over a week before the Snack Wrap returns on June 10, giving Snack Wrap fans an alternative.

Going by the images on the announcement, they may have something special here.

Each "generously sized" chicken wrap contains "a Popeyes hand-breaded and battered chicken tender, crisp lettuce, shredded cheese," and "crunchy pickles." Your Popeyes Chicken Wrap can also be benefited by a sauce of your choice: Classic, Spicy, or Honey Mustard.

What's grabbed my attention is that the tortilla is apparently inspired by their "famous biscuits," which sounds very promising.

For a long time, McDonald's has had the monopoly on chicken wraps. Popeyes is out to challenge this position, however, and they really are coming out swinging.

Popeyes added the item their menus on June 2, alongside a new line of beverages that are perfect for the summer months.

$3.99 Popeyes Chicken Wrap To Combat The Classic Snack Wrap?

Only in the First World would two fast food chains warring over chicken wraps be considered a notable event. Yet here we are.

Popeyes isn't just unveiling their new $3.99 chicken wraps, however. They're also bringing out a new line of "Blueberry Beverages."

"Building on the hype of Popeyes viral Pickle Lemonade, this new berry-infused offering includes Blueberry Lemonade (Chilled or Frozen), Blueberry Cane Sweet Tea and Blueberry Unsweet Tea," the announcement unveiled.

The pairing of the wrap and the blueberry drinks may make Popeyes the more desirable chain for a quicker bite to eat this year. And with the week's head start over the Snack Wraps, McDonald's may be in trouble with this one.

Chef Amy Alarcon, VP of Culinary Innovation at Popeyes, said, "We wanted to create a Chicken Wrap that was undeniably Popeyes. Infusing the flavors from our famous biscuit into our wraps was the perfect way to ensure our signature flavors shined through."

I wonder how consumers will receive the new wraps. We'll just have to wait for the reviews to roll in.
