Lidl is a German discount grocery chain seen as a direct competitor to Aldi. It opened its first stores in the United States in 2017 in Virginia. Over the last several years, it has expanded across the East Coast.

About 80% of the products sold at Lidl are private label, which keeps prices low. It also has a "bring your own bag" policy, which is another way the chain keeps costs down while reducing waste. Products are also stored in the boxes they arrive in to save time restocking.
