I was, am, and always will be a fan of the late Princess Diana. She was so unstuffy and informal, unlike many other British royals through the years and privileged aristocrats. Despite intense pressure and scrutiny from the palace, the press, and the public, she remained triumphantly herself. She did not fit the royal mold nor did she apparently want to - thank goodness! When former Prime Minister Tony Blair fondly called Diana the People's Princess, the nickname stuck because it was so apt.

Although it has been almost thirty years since her tragic death at age 36 in a car accident in a Paris tunnel, she is still missed and revered. Tales about her atypical exploits are still emerging. There was one occasion when Diana reportedly tossed her tiara aside and hobnobbed at a gay bar with Queen's Freddie Mercury. What was that all about?
Diana Allegedly Dressed In Male Drag And Went To A Gay Bar With Freddie Mercury And Two Others
A new book called Dianaworld: An Obsession by Edward White contends that this incident happened, per nypost.com. He alludes to "actress Cleo Rocos' 2013 memoir for evidence of the princess' wild London night," per the outlet.
Rocos, in a book she wrote called The Power of Positive Drinking, asserts that she, along with Mercury and a buddy of hers named Kenny Everett supposedly decked the princess out in a masculine outfit in 1988. Wearing that getup then allowed her to go unrecognized with them to the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, which was a gay bar.
Everett and Rocos allegedly initially tried to discourage Diana from accompanying them. Maybe they feared that it was just too outrageous for a princess. However, Mercury reportedly intervened on her behalf.
Diana Was Allegedly Clad Just Like A Man
The royal was said to have been garbed in sunglasses and an army jacket. Her famous blonde pixie hairdo was stuffed under a cap. "Scrutinizing her in the half-light we decided that the most famous icon of the modern world might just . . . JUST, pass for a rather eccentrically dressed gay male model. She did look like a beautiful young man," Rocos noted.
She added, ""When we walked in...we felt she was obviously Princess Diana and would be discovered at any minute. But people just seemed to blank her. She sort of disappeared. But she loved it."
