Rascal Flatts released their star-studded Life Is A Highway: Refueled Duets album earlier this year. The record is a celebration of sorts of the trio's 25 years in country music. Rascal Flatts released a total of ten studio albums, their last being Back to Us in 2017. Rascal Flatts, made up of Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus adn Joe Don Rooney, famously split in 2020, unable to embark on their farewell tour, due to the global shutdown.

But now, it seems Rascal Flatts really are back, and on the hunt for new music. But this time, DeMarcus reveals they know exactly what they want their music to sound like, moving forward.
"We've been blessed to do so many albums with so many different types of songs," DeMarcus says. "And covered so many different things from R&B feels to hardcore country feels. to pushing the rock edge a little bit. For me, I now look for something that jumps out at me as being unique, whether it's a lyric or a melody.
"The bar's been set so high. It's very, very hard to find something now that jumps out at you," he continues. "And I think it's safe to say for all of us, it's a difficult thing to find that song or a group of songs that's different enough that makes you want to go in the studio and put the time into cutting."
Rascal Flatts Reunite After Joe Don Rooney Becomes Sober
Rascal Flatts might have never reunited again, if not for Joe Don Roony becoming sober. Rooney was in a car accident in 2021, which occurred while he was intoxicated. The incident became the wake-up call he needed to quit drinking once and for all. The decision gives not only him, but also Rascal Flatts a new start.
"I think he would tell you if he were sitting here that he's still processing every day," DeMarcus tells Taste of Country Nights. "But I've seen him turn into a completely different person, it's an unbelievable metamorphosis."
"[He] is so zoned in now, and so lucid and intentional about everything he does," he adds. "And I'm so proud to see him in such a healthy space. It's really, really cool."
Rascal Flatts also recently announced they are touring next year. The threesome will embark on their 2026 Life Is A Highway Tour in January.
