Riley Green Is a Redneck, and He’s Not Afraid To Admit It

Riley Green isn't ashamed of his roots. Read about how the country signer is taking inspiration from his hometown in Alabama.

Riley Green, who stole everyone's hearts with his duet on "You Look Like You Love Me" with Ella Langley, is originally from Pleasant Valley, Alabama. Although he's definitely going places, the 37-year-old isn't ashamed to talk about where he comes from, even if it means admitting that he's a "redneck." On the Zach Sang show, Green was asked if he was bothered by the term, and this is what he had to say.

"There's probably nicer terms," the country singer shared. "But for me, redneck was just somebody that grew up out in the country, and what you did for fun was probably not the same as somebody — I guess you could call a city clicker — would do."

He went on to describe his hometown, which he revealed is actually a lot more "city" compared to some other places. "They would say I was 'city' because we had a Walmart and a Johnson's and a Waffle House, so we were big time."

Green Reveals Where He Gets Most of His Inspiration From

Green currently owns his own property in Pleasant Valley, which spans about 680 acres. On the property, he has goats, pigs, and a lake with bass. In an interview with Cowboys and Indians, he described his home state as the place he gets all of his inspiration from.

"I'm attached to it. I'm in Pleasant Valley, outside of Jacksonville. That's where I grew up, and I don't wanna see it change from how it was when I was a kid." Green went on, "That's why it's more important now than ever for me to keep going home. When I'm back there, there's a little store called Green's Store down the street. The owner is E.L. Green and he's about 94 years old. All the old men go over there and drink coffee and play dominoes. I usually don't sleep well when I get home, so I end up there to drink coffee and catch up on all the gossip the old guys talk about. It always surprises me how little the conversations are about what do."

Currently, the "Worst Way" singer is gearing up for his Cowboy As It Gets tour in 2026 with Justin Moore. Rest assured, even though he'll be far from home in stops like Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania, there's no place like home for the country singer when it comes to writing music.

"I can't imagine getting inspiration from anywhere outside of Alabama," the singer shared.
