For the longest time, he was the drummer for Roger Daltrey and The Who. He's also the son of Beatles legend Ringo Starr. Consequently, when Starkey was fired got canned by the band over disagreements over his performance, his dad definitely had some thoughts over the decision. As a good dad, he sticks up for his son, especially if he found the decision to be wrong and unfair.
Zak Starkey Talks Getting Canned From The Job and How Ringo Responded
Recently, Starkey spoke with Rolling Stone amidst the news of his abrupt departure from The Who. There, he opens up about what Ringo thought about Roger Daltrey's decision-making. Frankly, after firing Zak a second time, he's starting to wonder if the lead singer can really handle a band. "I've never liked the way that little man [Daltrey] runs his band," Ringo says, according to his son.
Ultimately, Zak leaving was all about timing issues and how the drums sounded. Still, rumors persisted, wondering if there was something deeper at play. When asked if it was Roger's decision to make via finances, Starkey explains why this is an absurd notion. "Roger is quite renowned," he explains. "I once asked [former Who bassist] John Entwistle if Roger still had the money from the last Who tour. He goes: 'He's still got the money from the first one.'"
