Robert Redford, the acclaimed actor and Academy Award-winning director known for his iconic roles in films like The Way We Were, The Sting, The Natural, and All the Presidents Men, has died at the age of 89, according to People. Per the outlet, "Robert Redford passed away on Sept. 16, 2025, at his home at Sundance in the mountains of Utah — the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved, He will be missed greatly. The family requests privacy," announced Chairman and CEO of Rogers & Cowan PMK Cindi Berger.

According to People via The New YorkTimes, there was no cause of death made public. "...Berger told the outlet in a statement that [Redford} died in his sleep."
He Received Many Prestigious Awards
He earned many accolades during his lengthy and distinguished career. Among them were two Academy Award nominations for Quiz Show (Best Director) and The Sting, He won the coveted golden statuette for directing Ordinary People in 1980. Redford, a California native, also got an honorary Oscar in 2002. In addition, he landed the Life Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild and the Cecil B. DeMille Award from the Golden Globes.
Redford's Acting Career Took Off in the 1960s
The actor had parts in TV shows like The Twilight Zone, Route 66, and The Untouchables. His role in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid in 1969 opposite Paul Newman took Redford to new heights of fame and popularity.
Per the outlet via Collider, Redford said, "I was being put up for Butch Cassidy because I'd done the comedy. But that part didn't interest me. What interested me was the Sundance Kid because I could relate to that based on my own experience and particularly my own childhood and feeling like an outlaw most of my life."

His notable film credits include The Horse Whisperer, All Is Lost, Indecent Proposal, Three Days of the Condor, The Great Gatsby, and Out of Africa. Redford acted alongside some of the greatest actresses of our time. They include Mia Farrow, Meryl Streep, Glenn Close, Jane Fonda, and Barbra Streisand.
Redford married twice. He had four children and several grandchildren. He was responsible for the Sundance Film Festival and the Sundance Institute.
