Most of us know Ryan Seacrest as the buoyant, upbeat host of American Idol and Wheel of Fortune. But right now, he is grieving a very painful loss. His dear father, Gary, has died at the age of 79 from prostate cancer, per People.

On October 31, Seacrest, 50, made the sad announcement himself on Instagram. "It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week. My mom, sister and I have peace knowing he is in a better place and free of any pain or suffering. We are heartbroken. He was a devoted husband for 56 years, an incredible Papa to Flora, and my best friend. Dad you will live in our hearts forever. I love you. Ryan"

Seacrest Described His Dad's Last Moments on His Radio Show
There is also a video on Instagram of Seacrest speaking on his radio show recalling Gary's final moments. At times, the tears come down his face. The love he felt for his father is so achingly clear. According to Seacrest, among Gary's last utterances to family members gathered at his bedside were "I love this family" and "Take care of your mom." He knew his time was coming quickly. Seacrest said his father closed out his life with the words, "I've gotta go."

The Foundation, as stated on its Instagram page, "is a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring pediatric patients through entertainment and education focused initiatives."
A statement reads, "It is with the heaviest heart that we share the passing of Gary Seacrest. Together with his wife Connie and their children Meredith and Ryan, Gary helped found the Ryan Seacrest Foundation. He took immense pride in the joy and inspiration it brings to children and families during some of their toughest times, and his warmth, kindness, and unwavering support helped shape who we are today. Gary's spirit and love will forever remain at the heart of RSF and we will miss him deeply."
