Country music has always done great at spotlighting its rich history. Oftentimes, a lot of genres can be cruel to their legends, sticking them to a bygone era and focusing on the present. Similarly, it's not quite like rock either. It isn't full nostalgia peddling, although country is definitely capable of reaching those levels. Instead, it's an earnest embrace of what makes the genre great, an acknowledgement of its many legends and classic records. This is precisely what made Scotty McCreery want to start his new SiriusXM show. It's all about ensuring their legends aren't forgotten.

Recently, McCreery gave out a statement to Billboard, highlighting the intention on why he's starting his new radio show. Ultimately, it's a matter of preserving the classics of the 80s and 90s. Moreover, we'll get an insight on what informs his taste as an artist.
Scotty McCreery Takes Us Back to The Past With New Radio Show
"I love country music from every decade, but the country music of the '80s and '90s is probably my favorite era of music. I'm excited to put a spotlight on the songs and performers I grew up listening to that helped shape the artist I am today," Scotty says in a statement. "Each song is handpicked by me. I'll be sharing stories of how an artist influenced me or how I met them or something we may have experienced together on the road or backstage at an awards show or the Opry."
Additionally, he'll spotlight at least one performance from the Grand Ole Opry. It gives McCreery the opportunity to highlight another valuable part of country music history. "Every month I'll also be sharing a live Opry performance that was recorded on that legendary stage during the '80s or '90s. My first episode will feature Joe Diffie performing 'Pick Up Man' on the Opry stage from Oct. 18, 1997," Scotty adds.
Lastly, don't expect McCreery to not include himself. As much as this is a historical archive, it's also a personal project. It helps informs his own creativity too, so playing his own records acts as proof of this. "You'll also hear one or two of my songs on the show because - hey! It's my show!" Scotty quips. "I'm hoping in the future to occasionally have guest artists join me for some conversation as well. I'm really pumped to be able to do this and I appreciate SiriusXM offering me this opportunity. I hope people tune in and enjoy it!"
