Per dailymail.co.uk, people "were shocked" by the way Penn looked on the Louis Theroux Podcast on May 12. According to the outlet, Penn had "noticeable bags under his eyes, and sported disheveled grey hair and a beard."
Sean Penn Made Some Unsettling Comments About Controversial Director Woody Allen
Penn worked with Woody Allen in the past. It was on the movie Sweet and Lowdown. Penn claimed he'd "do it again in a heartbeat" if "the right [project]" came along.
Allen allegedly molested his young daughter, Dylan, in 1992. Mia Farrow leveled the accusation against Allen, who was her partner from 1980 to 1992. He married Farrow's adopted daughter, Soon-Yi Previn, in 1997, which was another shocker.
The outlet points out that Allen "was never charged or prosecuted {for the alleged situation involving Dylan] and has vehemently denied the allegation...." Dylan, however, now 39, "stands by the allegations...."
Penn Evidently Went To Bat For Allen
Penn said, "I am not aware of any clinical psychologist or psychiatrist or anyone I've ever heard talk or spoken to around the subject of pedophilia that in 80 years of life, there's accusations of it happening only once. And when people try to associate what were his, let's say, much younger girlfriends, right or wrong is not the conversation here, but post-puberty, consensual stuff is to me a different conversation."
He explained further, "So, I just think that whatever is the worst of people's suspicions about him, just check him with the facts separate from the moment and the movement and all. Who benefited from that. Let's just take a second. That's all I'm saying. I see he's not proven guilty, so I take him as innocent, and I would work with him in a heartbeat."
Woody Allen Has Some Famous People In His Corner Besides Sean Penn; Others Don't Intend To Work With Him Again
Some Hollywood and media heavyweights have been supportive of Allen. They include Jim Belushi, Javier Bardem, Cate Blanchett, Bill Maher, Diane Keaton, Jude Law, and many others.
Equally distinguished actors and actresses say they do not plan to be professionally involved with Allen in the future. They include Mira Sorvino, Colin Firth, Natalie Portman, Drew Barrymore, and several more.
