Selena's Killer Attempts To Go Free With 2025 Parole

Although Yolanda Saldívar, who is responsible for Selena's murder, was sentenced to life in prison back in 1995, things may be changing in the New Year. The NY Post reveals that inmates at the prison where she is being held shared that there is "a bounty on her head."
That along with the lack of blemishes on her record will allow her case to have a hearing by the parole board in March. If all goes well for Saldívar, she will go free on parole in 2025. Saldívar was arrested after she fatally shot the young superstar, Selena, in a hotel room.
People were surprised at the killing as Saldívar was the founder of Selena's fan club. However many believe that she had been embezzling money and that Selena had planned on firing Saldívar. Most likely, Selena's family will be notified that Selena's killer will be getting a parole hearing. I wonder how they will react.
As news of the star's death circulated, fans were devastated. It would not surprise me if Ms. Yolanda Saldívar was among the most hated people in the world for a time. However, regardless of all of the backlash from the fans and community, Selena's killer maintains the argument that she did not mean to kill her.
Selena's Killer Still Argues Accidental Killing
After 30 years in jail, Saldívar still argues that she never intended to kill Selena. The NY Post shares that Saldívar had intended to kill herself, not Selena. However, the jury did not believe her. In a prison interview, she stated, "I was convicted by public opinion even before my trial started."
While friends, family, and fans of Selena may believe that Saldívar got what she deserved, her family disagrees. A cousin of Selena's killer argued that "Keeping her in prison isn't going to do any good." Additionally, Saldívar admitted that she feels like a "political prisoner."
That is most likely due to the constant threats that she faces in prison. An inmate who shared time with her for a couple of years admitted that everyone knows who Saldívar is. This inmate told the Post, "There's a bounty on her head like everyone wants a piece of her." She continued, "The guards keep her away from everyone else because she's hated so much. If she were out [in the general population], someone would try to take her down."
With 30 years behind bars and dealing with constant threats to her life, Saldívar feels that "she has paid her debt to society." However, with many people still disgruntled and demanding justice for Selena, I wonder if life outside of bars may be just as dangerous as behind them for Yolanda Saldívar. Now, we must all wait and see if Selena's killer will go free in 2025.
