In recent months, Shenandoah has been on the road with multi-platinum-selling rock band Nickelback, having teamed up for multiple country music festivals. It would appear that their time on the road has led to a strong bond between the two bands, and as such, a collaboration has been born.

On Friday, Nov. 7, the two groups released a new rendition of "The Church on Cumberland Road," bringing a fresh new spin to a true country classic. The original song came out in 1989, and fans will be glad to see it getting a new lease on life.
"We've always had a deep respect for the artists who came before us, and Shenandoah is one of those bands that helped define an era," Chad Kroeger of Nickelback said. "Getting the chance to collaborate with them on 'The Church On Cumberland Road' was an absolute blast. It's a song that feels as vibrant today as it did when it first came out."
Nickelback Were Recently Inducted Into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame
Having formed in 1995, Nickelback has become a globally recognized band. They've sold over 50 million albums throughout their careers, and boast 24.3 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Their smash hit "How You Remind Me" has gained over 1.5 billion hits on the streaming giant alone.
So, it should come as no surprise that in 2023, Nickelback were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
"We didn't see any of this coming," Kroeger told CBC. "I don't know whose idea this was; I don't know how this got pushed through. But it's just, it just doesn't feel real. When you're being honoured by your peers in your home country, that's a hell of an award. That's not something we take lightly at all.
After conquering the rock world, Nickelback's team-up with Shenandoah marks a new chapter for them. It's unlikely Nickelback will stay in the country music lane. Still, Shenandoah chose the perfect group to bring new-school energy to what might be their greatest hit.
It may take weeks, or even months, to see how well it's received by fans and listeners worldwide.
