Ever since the Charlie Kirk shooting happened, it feels like everybody's been a little bit on edge. This definitely applies to host Jimmy Kimmel, who got suspended from his spot on television recently. After making comments about the assassination, ABC decided to cut Jimmy Kimmel's show from their lineup. Now, it seems the TV host is set to return to our screens, but at a price.

"We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it," Kimmel remarked on his show on September 15.
He also mocked President Trump, who was a close friend of Kirk's. He made comments that his grief was similar to "how a 4-year-old mourns a goldfish." This was in reference to a video of Trump that was surfacing on the internet at the time, where he quickly went from discussing Kirk to talking about a new ballroom being built at the White House.
The remarks he made led to considerable backlash from his conservative audience. It didn't take long for ABC's affiliates, Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group, to announce that they would stop airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! indefinitely, saying that his comments were "not in the public interest."
However, as of yesterday, it seems that Kimmel will be returning about as quickly as he left. Now, Jimmy Kimmel Live! will be returning to television, but not in the way it was initially aired.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! Is Coming Back, Just Not Everywhere
According to Disney, who owns ABC, "We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday."
However, Sinclair Broadcast Group, another owner of ABC affiliates, is still not ready to continue airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! On X, Sinclair announced that it would be replacing the show with news programming, until further notice.
"Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show's potential return."
As for whether or not you will be able to watch Jimmy Kimmel's highly anticipated return to the screen tonight, it just depends on who owns your local ABC affiliate.
