Slipknot's long-awaited Look Outside Your Window project may finally be nearing release.

Originally recorded in 2008, the album has remained shelved ever since. It has become one of the most talked-about mysteries in modern heavy metal.

A limited run of just 2,300 copies is already set for release as a Record Store Day exclusive on April 18. But now, new details suggest a wider rollout could be on the horizon.

Slipknot Look Outside Your Window Release Date: Leak Sparks Buzz

Speculation intensified after an eagle-eyed Slipknot fan spotted the album listed on Record Store Day's online marketplace.

The listing reportedly showed a release date of Friday, June 12, alongside a "Go Live" date of May 19. The latter date potentially indicates when pre-orders and official announcements could begin.

Vinyl and CD were the only formats listed, with no confirmation yet on whether the project will arrive on digital or streaming platforms.

The page has since been taken down, adding further fuel to the speculation.

"The music media got wind of this post and within hours the RSD MRKT link was removed - that sort of tells me this is a real date that wasn't supposed to have been posted/revealed yet," one fan wrote on Reddit.

Notably, the album is expected to be released under the Look Outside Your Window name rather than the Slipknot banner.

Long-Lost Project Dates Back to 2008 Sessions

The project was recorded during the same period as Slipknot's 2008 album All Hope Is Gone, with Shawn "Clown" Crahan, Corey Taylor, Jim Root, and Sid Wilson all involved.

Two separate recording sessions took place simultaneously in different studios, with the band exploring a different creative direction.

Crahan has previously described the material as more "melodic" than a typical Slipknot release, with a stronger "rock-music vibe."

A total of 11 tracks were reportedly recorded, but internal tensions within the band at the time meant the project was ultimately shelved.

One song, "Til We Die," is believed to have originated from these sessions before appearing as a bonus track on All Hope Is Gone.

Over the years, there have been repeated hints that the album could see the light of day, but each time plans failed to materialize.

According to the Record Store Day listing, the tracklist includes:

  1. 11th March
  2. Moth
  3. Dirge
  4. Christina
  5. Is Real
  6. Away
  7. In Reverse
  8. Toad
  9. Juliette
  10. U Can't Stop This
