I'll say the quiet part out loud: you have to be crazy to still eat Subway in 2025. It's not even that it's outright horrible. There's definitely some questionable eatery at the establishment but you can make something work on that menu. But absolutely no one should be going on purpose. There's far too many options to have that being a genuine option. Sandwich spots alone see Subway taking the bottom slot next to places like Jersey Mike's or Firehouse Subs, not even accounting for the several local places.

So how are they going to compete if they aren't the top sandwich folks in town? Their cookies are good but that's not enough to keep customers. They're clearly not going to bring the prices down just like every other fast food restaurant refuses to do. So what's the move for Subway? In typical fashion, they're unveiling a new menu item, something that will do nothing to drum up interest. However, the choice they make is one of the most bizarre choices I've seen a fast food joint make.
Subway Introduces $5 Foot Long... Nachos?
Recently, the sandwich joint releases a press release where they're unveiling footlong nachos for $5. This is their latest installment of the Sidekicks series, joining the footlong Cinnabon churros, the Auntie Anne's Pretzels, and chocolate chip cookies. The base of the nachos starts with nacho cheese Doritos, then they lay an array of toppings like cheddar cheese, jalapeno slices, diced tomatoes, red onions. To top it all off, Subway adds a chipotle sauce, with the option to add your form of protein between rotisserie chicken and steak. For the avocado obsessed, you can add that to your nachos as well.
It looks as bad and ridiculous as you might imagine. However, Subway's ultimate goal is to try and maximize the market for snacking. Truthfully, it's more of a necessity because of how expensive everything is and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. However, the company argues that if it's quick, convenient, and relatively affordable, they're down to try it. Hard times breed desperate measures and that might include a Subway trip for some.
