Sydney Sweeney Will Play A Country Singer In Upcoming Movie

Westerns seem to be very popular these days. Per Whiskey Riff, some of that popularity can be attributed to the Yellowstone TV drama franchise. Viewers ate up the compelling saga of the powerful Dutton clan, headed by Kevin Costner. Even though his character was eliminated, the series' spinoffs are definitely going strong, with more sequels and prequels than I can possibly keep track of. Actually, Westerns. be they set in the frontier days of the 1800s, or more contemporary ones like the 1980 film Urban Cowboy with John Travolta and Debra Winger, always seem to find an appreciative audience.

Which brings us to an upcoming Western-themed film titled Americana. Directed by Tony Tost, the plot revolves around what ensues when folks hunt for a Native American artifact in a South Dakota community. It's slated for release on August 22, 2025.

Per the outlet, "Sydney Sweeney, who seems like she's in almost everything in the modern era of TV and film, stars as Penny Jo Poplin alongside Paul Walter Hauser, who's character is named Lefty Ledbetter."

'Americana' Has Been In The Pipeline for Quite A While

The movie was filmed three years ago. Then it was released slightly more than two years back for the South By Southwest Film & TV Festival. So why is it being dusted off and taken down from the shelf at this point? According to the outlet, it had something to do with "Lionsgate obtaining the rights to the worldwide distribution of the film in March of 2024, and now they're scheduling the release for later this year."

Sydney Sweeney Has The Acting Chops And Background For This Plum Role

At just 27, the talented and versatile Spokane, Washington, native has amassed some pretty impressive credentials in the acting biz. Sweeney was in Euphoria on HBO, along with The White Lotus and The Handmaid's Tale. She also had a role in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, directed by Quentin Tarantino.

So clear your calendar for that date in August if you can barely wait to see Americana. It sounds like an intriguing romp that will hold your attention throughout. And it certainly seems like it will add even more luster to the resume of actress Sydney Sweeney.
