Ted Danson Gets Candid About Heated Exchange With 'Cheers' Co-Star

Actor Ted Danson recently opened up about a heated moment between him and his Cheers co-star Kelsey Grammer. The 77-year-old actor got candid about his rocky relationship with 70-year-old Grammer on Howie Mandel's podcast, Howie Mandel Does Stuff.

The 69-year-old comedian recalled back to The Good Place star's comments from a different podcast. When guest-starring on Woody Harrelson's Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast last October, Danson told Grammer that he "missed out" on the last 30 years of Grammer's life.

"I feel like it's my bad, my doing, and I almost feel like apologizing to you," Danson had said. Now, in one of Mandel's recent podcast episodes, he asked about this rift in the actors' relationship.

"I didn't know that you were on the outs with Kelsey," said Mandel.

"I wasn't," Danson quickly answered. He then thought for a moment before continuing. "Sorry, how far do I wanna go?"

Mandel then encouraged him by saying, "Go all the way."

Danson then referred back to the Frasier star's already known issues with alcohol and drug abuse. This is quite far in the past, though, as Grammer has been sober for many years now. Danson brought up an intervention that he had with Grammer, which led to a heated conversation.

"Finally I went up to his dressing room and I said, 'I've told you how much I love you,'" Danson recalled telling Grammer. "But I have not told you how f**king pissed off I am at you. I'm so angry at you and I felt the need to say that to be real."

He apparently took it well, but Danson remembered it as being "a moment" that was significant between them. This tense exchange took place near the end of Cheers too, so the two were still acting together. Danson also wanted to reiterate that this was a "simple" moment between them that got "blown up" by the press.

Mandel then questioned how often the two had spoken within the last 30 years. He said they'd talked "a little bit," but not often enough. The memories of losing the last 30 years between them began to rise when he and Grammer were on Harlson's podcast, who was also a star on the show. That's why Danson felt he needed to apologize, since he had such a good time talking to his two co-stars.
